Around noon Sunday word came over the Park Service radio in the entrance booth where I was working that Angel’s Landing Trail — often cited as the “scariest hike in America” — was closed until further notice. One of the chains had broken!
How’d you like to be the person holding onto the chain (for dear life) when it broke?!
There was no word that anyone had fallen or was otherwise injured. Just that the trail was closed.
I’m sure someone is going to bed tonight feeling like the luckiest person on earth!
Angel’s Landing Trail is one of the most popular trails in the park, so popular in fact that the Park Service instituted a lottery-based permit system earlier this year in an attempt to control crowding at the summit.
P.S. Nancy and I are undecided if we’ll hike Angel’s Landing during our time here.
You will bee kicking yourselves in the butt if you don’t do it while you’re there. Have Nancy go first and she can look back and check on you ….
I say you just photoshop your picture in there and call it good!
