The day dawned with temps in the mid-30s and a snow squall in Moab UT! Then it got sunny and mild. A cold front rolled thru with more snow and biting winds. Then the day ended sunny and milder. Welcome to spring time in southern Utah.
This was orientation day for our month-long role as campground hosts for the Devils Garden Campground in Arches National Park. Ranger Melissa had our paperwork ready to go, did an excellent on-board briefing, gave us our uniforms and a tour of the campground, and said “Thank you for volunteering, and Good Luck!” And she was off. We start tomorrow morning, “working” 4 days on / 4 days off.
We are staying in a small stucco cabin at the entrance to the campground, with the Airstream parked nearby.
After settling into the cabin, we took a short walk around the meadow that is the entrance to the Devils Garden trailhead.
The Devils Garden Campground is 18 miles from the park entrance and 23 miles outside the town of Moab, so there’s no cell service. However, our Starlink is blazing fast and very reliable. We’re spoiled.
We’re pinching ourselves at our good fortune to be able to spend a month in this incredible place!
I am so happy for you. We really wanted to host at Arches, but honestly worried about how remote it was. We LOVE that campground, and that is Mike's favorite park. I can't wait to hear all about it during the next few weeks.
