Corona & Bowtie Arches on BLM Lands
Today we had to bop out of the park (Arches National Park) for some administrative work at the visitor center and then errands in the town of Moab UT. But we also found time for this most amazing hike.
Outside of Arches National Park and on BLM Land, Corona and Bowtie Arch are some of the most accessible and prominent arches to be found. Just 12 miles south of the park entrance, and following the Potash Road tight along the Colorado River, we came to the well-marked Corona Arch trailhead displaying this map …
The trail crosses an active rail line, then climbs steeply before reaching a gentle climb across slickrock …
First into view is the Bowtie Arch, with two small intermittant springs below it where blue-green mineral leeches can be seen …
But before that, we had to traverse a chain and a ladder …
The springs below the Bowtie Arch create a mini-oasis in the desert …
Here’s the Corona Arch, just to the right of Bowtie …
And this is the awesome view looking back down the valley from underneath the Corona Arch …
An awesome hike!
