Tapestry and Broken Arches
This was our first day “on the job” as campground hosts, and it was uneventful; checked sites after campers moved out this morning, changed tags at sites where new campers were coming in today, and talked with campers and distributed bundles of firewood this evening. But the views while we’re “working” in Devils Garden Campground? Crazy spectacular!
Arches National Park has over 2,000 documented arches, however there are trails to only a small number of them. After lunch we hiked to our first two arches (on this trip), taking the Broken Arch Trail on a 3 mile saunter to the Tapestry Arch and Broken Arch.
Here’s the Tapestry Arch …
Along the trail …
… were some impressive views to Mt Waas and Mt Peale to our southeast.
Here’s the famous Broken Arch, first as seen from the back …
And the view from below …
And finally, Broken Arch from the front. See the crack in the middle, and how it gets its name?
On the loop back to the campground road, we passed thru this amazing slot canyon …
Leading to view of an excellent example of sandstone fins, or ridges, located just behind the campground.
It was a great first hike in Arches National Park.
